Rialto-area veterans get free county park admission Nov. 11

Veterans and active-duty military personnel can enter five San Bernardino County Regional Parks for free on Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11.

The county announced the benefit on Nov. 5. Eligible service members include active-duty U.S. Armed Forces, Reserves and National Guard, according to San Bernardino County. A valid military ID or DD214 must be presented at the gate. The county announcement does not mention any registration or reservation requirement.

The free benefit covers one vehicle admission, meaning everyone in the car enters at no charge. The five participating parks are Cucamonga-Guasti in Ontario, Glen Helen in San Bernardino, Mojave Narrows in Victorville, Prado in Chino and Yucaipa Regional Park.

Glen Helen Regional Park sits at 2555 Glen Helen Parkway in San Bernardino, just across the city line from Rialto.

Calico Ghost Town in Yermo is also participating but on different terms. Eligible veterans and active-duty personnel receive one free adult admission there rather than a vehicle pass.

All five regional parks are open 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Calico Ghost Town is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Lake advisories at three parks

The San Bernardino County Regional Parks website lists algal bloom caution notices for lakes at Cucamonga-Guasti, Glen Helen and Prado. Families planning to visit the water should check the parks site before heading out.

County offices closed

San Bernardino County offices will be closed Wednesday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans Day and will reopen Thursday, Nov. 12, according to a separate county notice.

Operation Green Light

The county is also lighting several government buildings green through Nov. 11 as part of Operation Green Light for Veterans. The nationwide initiative is led by the National Association of Counties and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers, according to a county announcement. Residents and businesses are encouraged to display a green bulb at their home or storefront through Nov. 11.
